Mahtomedi Zephyrs vs Warroad Warriors (Class A Third Place Game)

This for 3rd place in the Class A Tourney.  We will be looking to see if Mahtomedi can recover from the heartbreaking loss to Hermantown.  Warroad will be looking for redemption after losing to Breck. VMH.com picks up the game action late in the third period upon arrival to the Xcel Center.


3rd Period


We just arrived at Xcel to see Mahtomedi tie the
game with a few minutes left.

Overtime


Through the first overtime both teams look evenly matched.  Warroad's #3 Brock Nelson clanked some iron with a few minutes left in overtime.  Shots are 35-19

Both teams matching top lines.  Both teams also playing two lines

The refs are letting them play.  Questionable
plays but no penalties called yet

Mahtomedi to the power play at 11:59.  This
could be the chance they need.

Warroad full strength after standing strong on
the power play.  Could be some momentum to

whistle.

This is an excellent game to start the day.

to win it for Warroad.  A dandy wrister over the
goalie's shoulder.

Breck Mustangs vs Hermantown Hawks (Class A Championship)


This for all the marbles in Class A.  Breck will be looking for their 2nd consecutive title.  Hermantown will be looking to keep their excellent tournament run going.

Hermantown to power play at 9:12.  Hermantown looking get one past Breck's John Russell who has not been tested much this tournament.

Hermantown nets the all  important first goal of the game by #20 Chad Bannor at 10:17.  A power play tally to give Hermantown the lead.

fantastic.  They have converted on 5 of 8
so far.

A skirmish develops in front of the
Breck goaltender.  Players were scrambling and a goal was scored.

The play was already blown dead. No goal. Ref had lost sight of puck

John Russell standing strong for Breck as Hermantown gets 2 real nice chances.

John Russell has been quite good as he robs Hermantown point blank stopping 27 of 28

Breck's #8 Mike Morin looks to have scored the game winner with 1:40 to go. Goal under review.

Apple Valley Eagles vs Hill Murray (Class AA Third Place Game)

This tilt is  the Class AA Third place game featuring the Pioneers from Hill Murray and Eagles from Apple Valley
The Pioneers are coming off a heartbreaking loss to Minnetonka in the semi finals and are looking to make
amends here.  The Eagles stunned a highly rated and very talented Blaine team.  They are a young team and
can use this as a stepping stone for the future.

Minnetonks Skippers vs. Edina Hornets (Class AA Championship)

It is finally here.  The big showdown.  This is "THE GAME" to be at.   We have the Skippers from
Minnetonka who are loaded with D-1 talent.  On the other hand we have the Hornets from
Edina who may not have the same talent but can roll 3 or 4 solid lines. 

During the regular season these teams met 3 times.  Minnetonka is 2-1 vs Edina.  Edina is the "only " team to beat Tonka this year.
