The 2010 Single A tournament has begun


Mahtomedi Zephyrs vs. Alexandria Cardinals


Fairly quiet at the start of the period.  Teams feeling each other out

Alex with a few early chances.

Alexandria having a slight edge in the play.

Alex to the PP halfway through the 1st. Alex looking to get on the board first

Alex having trouble getting setup on the powerplay.

Mahtomedi kills off penalty as Alexandria picks up a penalty.

Now we should get to see the high power first line of Mahtomedi go to work.  Just under 6 min left in first.

Mahtomedi starts the scoring with a power play goal by #22 Brandon Zurn

The power play goal seems to have awoken the Zephyrs

1-0 Mahtomedi

Mahtomedi scores on a 3 on 1 to take a 2 goal lead.
#21 Mike Rose nets it.

2-0 Mahtomedi after one period.  Shots 12-10 Alex with a
slight edge.


2nd period


Alexandria is going to have elevate this period.

Alex buzzing the Zephyr zone. Forchecking hard.

Mahtomedi to the box early this period.  Alexandria looking to get one on the board.

Alex is having a tough time setting up as Mahtomedi's penalty kill is good.

Mahtomedi is so strong.  Their first line is tough.  Mahtomedi to the power play.

Alex takes another penalty to give Mahtomedi a short 5 on 3. 

Mahtomedi picks up a pretty 3rd goal by #3 Charlie Adams.  A brillant give and go between Adams and #14 Marshall.

#21 Mike Rose picks off a misplayed puck by an Alexandria defensemen to give the Zephyrs a 4-0 lead.

The floodgates seem to be opening maybe?

Alexandria to the power play with just over 2 min left in the period. 

Both teams exchange penalties towards the end of the period.  Alexandria picks up another penalty with a few seconds left.  A moment of frustration possibly.

3rd Period


Mahtomedi opens the period with a sharp wrister by #3 Charlie Adams on the power play. 5-0 Mahtomedi

This is his second goal of the game.

Alex takes a penalty to give the vaunted Zephyr  power play another chance.

Charlie Adams of Mahtomedi nets his 3rd goal on the power play.  A hat trick completed.  6-0 Mahtomedi.

Alexandria gets a power play with 13 min left tin the third.  They are looking to get on the board.

#8 Ashton Gronholz puts the Cardinals on the board to
make it 6-1  Zephyrs.

Alex to the power play with 7:47 left in the 3rd period. 
Alex going try and make the score look a little closer. 

No avail as #22 Brandon Zurn fires a wrister over the
shoulder of the Cardinal goalie.  7-1 Mahtomedi
A shorthanded goal by the teams point leader.

1 min left in the period.  Mahtomedi is still coming strong.

Hermantown Hawks vs.Virginia/Mt. Iron-Buhl Blue Devils


Back and forth start to the period.  Teams trade shots.

Hermantown headed to the box. Virginia looking break it open early on the power play.

Herman kills off penalty with little trouble.  Teams look even halfway through 1st period.

Teams exchange body checks throughout. 

Herman going on the power play with 4:21 left in the period.  We will see if Virginia can stand tall.

Herman's #18 Cody Christopherson goes top shelf to give Hermantown the early lead.  A power play goal.

Herman back on the power play with a little over 2 min left in the period.  Hermantown applies the pressure on the power play. 

Virginia stands firm to keep the game 1-0.

After 1 period 1-0 Hermantown Shots even 6-6


2nd period


Virginia kicks in the door as #25 Travis Eddy ties it
up at 1-1.

Hermantown to the power play as they try to
reclaim the lead.  Virginia kills it off.

Hermantown seems to have Virginia back on it's heels as we reach the halfway point of the period.

Virginia hits the post and is buzzing the offensive zone.  It works as they force Hermantown to take a penalty.

Virginia looks to capitalize on the power play. 

This is a back and forth game as teams trade chances.

Hermantown misplays a 4 on 1 badly. No shots. They missed a great chance.

After 2 periods 1-1 Even  Shots almost even 16-15 Virginia


3rd Period


Fairly quiet start to the period.

#27 and Mr. Hockey Finalist Adam Krause lights the lamp with a dandy wrister to give Hermantown the lead.

Virginia needs a goal here to tie. 

The physical play is picking up.

Clock is ticking on Virginia with just under 7 min remaining.

Hermantown to the box.  This could be just what Virginia needs. 

The power play is not clicking for Virginia, having trouble setting up.

Hermantown looking strong as they kill off the remainder of the
penalty.

With a minute remaining Virginia calls time out. 

Things are looking grim for the "boys from the range".

29 seconds left with face off in Hermantown zone, Virginia goalie is
pulled.

Not enough left in the tank for Virginia

Breck Mustangs vs. New Ulm Eagles


Breck takes the first penalty at 3:17 of period #1

New Ulm is looking to get the first tally. No avail Breck kills it off.

Breck starting to pressure, New Ulm comes back with a good chance in front

Breck buzzing the net and to the power play they go at 7:50 of the period.

Breck gets great chance at side of net but no goal or wait .

They are reviewing the play. No goal after review

New Ulm at full strength.  Breck with a slight edge in shots.

#9 Riley Borer gets the first goal of the game off a screen in front of the New Ulm net.

#8 Mike Morin catches a long break out pass and goes dekes and puts Breck up by 2.

New Ulm with the power play.  Breck at full strength.

1 min remaining in the period.

2nd period


#23 Tyson Fulton strikes for Breck :38 into the 2nd period

3-0 Breck.  Looks like Breck is in complete control.

New Ulm to the power play at 3:14 of the period.  New Ulm needs a goal to get back into this.

Coincidental minor penalties called at 3:36 of the period. 

Still 5 on 4.  Breck back to full strength.

Breck's #5 Conor Anderle slams home a rebound at 7:37 of the period to push Breck farther ahead.

4-0 Breck

#7 Ben Gislason slaps a one timer home to go up by 5 at 10:19 of the 2nd period.

Back to back to back to back goals by Breck.  9-0 a rough night for New Ulm.

Breck pulls their starting goalie, in comes the back up.  Shots are piling up for Breck

New Ulm can't wait for this period to be over.

Breck has now tied the state tournament record for most goals scored in a period with 7.

After 2 periods: Breck 9 New Ulm 0.  Shots: Breck 31, New Ulm 12


3rd Period


:17 into the period Breck goes on the power play.

Breck's coach kept the top line off the ice for the power play.

New Ulm at full strength.  It seems like Breck's coach is keeping his top line on the bench.

Breck takes a penalty at 5:35 of the period.  New Ulm looking for something.

Breck gets a 3 on 1 shorthanded and #24 Austin Rudnick buries a slapper to bring it to 10.

This has to be tough for New Ulm.

Breck keeps on coming pounding away.  Breck nearing
50 shots

New Ulm finally tallies one. Kaleb Juntunen  at 12:51 of
the 3rd period.

New Ulm to the power play at 14:16 the 3rd period.

Breck"s # 22 Brenden Yates buries another at 16:51 of
the 3rd period.

Warroad Warriors vs. Rochester Lourdes Eagles


Warroad comes out playing physical to start

#3 Brock Nelson starts the scoring for Warroad at 2:37 of the first period.

Rochester without a shot so far. 11:30 left in period

Warroad picks up a goal by #22 Aaron Rasmusson at 5:49.

2-0 Warroad

Warroad is dictating the play so far.

Rochester to the power play at 10:21 of the first period.

Warroad misses a great chance short handed.  Nelson was
in all alone.

Physical play starting to pick up again, which leads to a
Warroad penalty at 14:39

More physical play ensues. Not much luck on the power play for Rochester.

2nd period


Brock Nelson is on another level.  Lourdes is struggling to get scoring chances.

Warroad is buzzing the zone. Peppering the Lourdes goaltender. 

The pressure pays of as Warroad's #9 Brett Hebel scores from the point.

Lourdes applies a little pressure.  Warroad battles back and hits another post.

Warroad gets a goal from #10 Tanner Pederson at 10:30 of the 2nd.

#9 Brett Hebel of Warroad gets his 2nd goal of the night at 12:48.

Rochester to the power play at 14:52.  Lourdes takes a penalty 15:11.

4 on 4 action here to end the 2nd.

Warroad gets  power play but Rochester kills it off.

#9 Brett Hebel of Warroad gets his third goal of the game at 5:43.   A hatrick for Hebel

7-0 Warroad leads. 

Rochester is just struggling all game long. 

Rochester gets a power play at 8:41.  They are looking to break the shut out.

Brock Nelson goes Peter Forsberg style on Rochester at 9:06.

Rochester to power play at 12:11.
